Communicable Disease Surveillance
Infection control and communicable disease follow up are a vital part of Public Health. The health department, with support from CDC and ODH, monitor any disease that could potentially pose a health risk to the community. Hospitals, labs and clinics are required by law to report certain communicable diseases to the health department. When these reports are received by the health department, a public health nurse follows up with the client to ensure the appropriate treatment is completed. Depending on the disease the public health nurse may also follow up with contacts of the case.
